As we now move into Summer we can’t help but wonder about the month of November…. Yep…. November, the wettest November since 1913 and the coldest EVER on record (since records have been kept!) and we have to throw out question marks around December 1… The coldest day to start any Summer on record (since records have been kept) – Unfortunately for us, this has kept a lot of our divers away with unfortunately the smallest turn-out to our 2 first Great Victorian Fish count events for 2025… Just as well that the fish didn’t care about water temperatures or conditions, those guys still turned up!
We live in hope with the thought of a long hot Summer ahead of us or is this wishful thinking on my behalf?
WRAP UP OF THE CHRISTMAS PARTY
Thank you to everyone who joined us at our 2025 Dive Club Christmas party at the Tower Hotel, once again a great turnout with well over 30 people joining us, all in all we had a great time, it was brilliant catching up with long time dive club members as well as some of our newer members who mingled and got to meet fellow divers. Once again hat’s off to the chefs at the Tower hotel for cooking up platter after platter of yummy tucker for our members. Congratulations to the many prize winners on the night too!
Qantas Beach Safe course
Launched in November 2024 by Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA), in partnership with Qantas, the Beach Passport is a complimentary online training resource that provides essential water safety education. So far, 37,000 people have completed the program, equipping themselves with critical knowledge to assess beach conditions and navigate Australian waters safely. It also has some useful, visual information on identifying rips and currents.
As regular beach users, we thought it a useful and a quick little course (takes about 10 minutes) for club members and their family members to take. Also very useful if you have overseas friends and families coming to visit.

Health Aspects of Children and diving
In response to the increasing popularity of diving for children of a variety of ages, in 2024 the South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society (SPUMS) released its position statement on the medical aspects of children and diving. Subsequently, the ADSF funded the creation of a video to help explain the considerations to parents, instructors and doctors who are not trained in diving medicine.
